F.A.Q. English

1 – Q: What is Lorrainville?
A: A music project of producer Guido Aalbers that started with an online game on Facebook.

2 – Q: Did the cover really come about through that game or did you just put beautiful things together yourself?
A: Guido says: ‘I honestly composed the album cover by means of the game ‘Wikipedia Names Your Band’, and posted the result on my Facebook wall. Really, it was completely innocent at first. I was just doing what lots of my musician friends were doing at the time; I thought it was funny. At that time I had no intention to start this project. It wasn’t until the discussion continued and I received forty serious reactions and spontaneously received songs as well, that I decided to actually make the album.

3 – Q: Can I send in a song as well?
A: Everyone was allowed to send in a song (the deadline was January 21, 2011). Guido Aalbers made the selection, and is now putting together the album You May Never Know What Happiness Is.

4 – Q: What is the deadline for sending in songs?
A: The deadline was January 21, 2011, 23.59 hours.

5 – Q: Do you still need people?
A: The last song was recorded on October 2, 2011. We no longer need musicians for their voices or instruments, but everyone who wants to and is able to promote Lorrainville, or who has a creative idea we haven’t thought of yet, is of course still welcome. Send an email to info@lorrainville.nl with your idea, or whatever you have to offer in enthusiasm or (professional) skills, and we will contact you to discuss what you can or want to do. Remember: there is a lot of interest, but spaces are limited, not everyone can join in.

6 – Q: Could you still use an “X”. (X can mean anything).
A: Yes. Please send an email to info@lorrainville.nl with your idea, or whatever you have to offer in enthusiasm or (professional) skills, and we will contact you to discuss what you can or want to do. Remember: there is a lot of interest, but spaces are limited, not everyone can join in.

7 – Q: Is it only possible to send in songs that are especially written for Lorrainville?
A: The last song was recorded on October 2, 2011. Some songs were especially written for Lorrainville, others were ‘on the shelf’ with the songwriter in question. The songs that best fitted the concept were chosen and recorded.

8 – Q: What kind of style/direction does the music have?
A: Singer/songwriter, Americana, melancholy, nostalgic.

9 – Q: If I’ve sent in a song, am I allowed to sing/play it on the album?
A: Not all songs that were sent in make it onto the album, and not everyone  sings their own song. Two to four ‘regular’ vocalists will be selected with maybe a few guest contributions, depending on what suits the song in question.

10 – Q: If I sent in a song, am I allowed to play it with my own band?
A: No, sorry, because then it would become a compilation album. We work with a core band with many guest contributions, depending on what suited the songs in question. We’ve tried to involve as many people as possible, but there are still more applications than there are places in the band.

11 – Q: When do I hear whether I get to play along on the album?
A: The last song was recorded on October 2, 2011. We no longer need musicians for their voices or instruments. On the Credits-page you can find all the names of the inhabitants of Lorrainville.

12 – Q: How many vocalists will sing on the album?
A: The Lorrainville vocalists are Anneke van Giersbergen, Erik Neimeijer and Casper Adrien.

13 – Q: When will the album be released?
A: If everything goes according to plan, the official release of ‘You May Never Know What Happiness Is’ will take place in the last week of November 2011.

14 – Q: Will Lorrainville perform live?
A: For now there are no plans for an extensive tour, but we have managed to arrange one single concert, and that will be on 15 December, at Hedon in Zwolle. We look forward to sharing this amazing album with you live with our Lorrainville band and vocalists. You’re in for a real treat! See you there!
